U.S. automakers contest higher fuel economy.
DETROIT, Feb 18 (Reuters) - U.S. automakers, led by General Motors Corp.,
have fired back at a federal proposal to raise fuel economy
standards for trucks by 1.5 miles per gallon, claiming regulators
overestimated the companies' ability to meet higher targets.

The United States
is heavily dependent on foreign oil, to its economic and geopolitical
detriment. The Energy Freedom Project is dedicated to replacing oil
with renewable energy sources, with a goal of replacing all foreign
oil by 2020. It's a challenge, but the goal is achievable.
There's plenty of energy from renewable sources.As much energy arrives at the Earth from the sun in forty minutes as we use in a whole year. We have the technology now.Wind power and solar thermal concentrators are presently competitive with gas-fired turbine generators. Prototypes of new vehicles like the Hypercar use dramatically less energy than conventional vehicles. New designs for solar hot water heaters are much more efficient than natural gas or electric water heaters. Conservation can be comfortable.Energy efficiency means eliminating the waste so we can have the same level of comfort while using less fuel. It's our first line of defense for energy independence, because its impact is immediate. What can I do?
